About
Under The Bed Theatre create playful, meaningful and uplifting children’s and family theatre. Combining live music, original songs, physical theatre and storytelling, Under The Bed Theatre aim to make audiences smile and laugh, whilst also making them think about the world around them. Their work offers messages of hope, which they think is pretty important in these uncertain times.

Under The Bed Theatre comprises of Beth Markey and Josh Baldwin. Both theatre-makers and performers based in the East Midlands, they graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2019. Their first show as a company, Where The Lost Socks Go, debuted at the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre as part of Newvolutions Festival, in January 2020. Since then, they have gone on to perform Where The Lost Socks Go at Brighton Fringe Festival, Tell Your Story Festival, Bedford Fringe Festival (Spirit of the Fringe Award 2022) and The Big Feastival. They have also toured Where The Lost Socks Go around libraries in Northamptonshire. This tour was supported by Royal and Derngate’s Generate programme and the Northants Cultural Education Partnership.
Under The Bed were commissioned by Lincoln Performing Arts Centre to create The Snow Hare in Winter, a Christmas show which was a filmed live in December 2020 and then later performed for live audiences in December 2021. As a company, Under The Bed have presented work at a number of online festivals including SO Festival and Royal and Derngate’s Gen Fest.
As well as full length shows, Under The Bed Theatre offer interactive storytelling sessions, which they have performed at libraries and events around the Midlands, including Newark Book Festival. They have also led Drama and Theatre workshops for the Royal and Derngate and Lincoln Fun Palaces.
Under The Bed Theatre are one of Royal and Derngate’s Generate Associate Artists, and feel very grateful to be part of their Generate programme.

Beth Markey
Beth is a theatre-maker, performer and workshop facilitator based in the Midlands. Beth studied Drama at the University of Lincoln where she graduated with a first class honours degree. She has also trained with the National Youth Theatre.
Beth has gone on to create her own original work and performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019 with Put Your Best Face On. Beth has enjoyed creating original work for: Lincoln Drill Hall, Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, Roundabout Theatre and Brighton Fringe Festival 2021. She has also toured her work with Under The Bed Theatre, round libraries in Northamptonshire, as well as festivals such as Bedford Fringe and The Big Feastival. Beth has led Drama and Theatre workshops for young people, as well as running the Drama Club at Delapre Primary School. Beth works as an actor and theatre-maker with Rhubarb Theatre, a children’s theatre company based in Lincolnshire. She has toured nationally with the company, and performs in shows and walkabout performances.

Josh Baldwin
Joshua Baldwin grew up in Lincolnshire and is an actor, musician, theatre maker, song-writer, and music and drama workshop facilitator based in the Midlands. Josh began as a volunteer presenter at his local radio station (Tulip Radio) in 2013. He studied Drama BA(Hons) at the University of Lincoln and graduated in 2019. Soon after he trained with Lincolnshire One Venues as an Emerging Music Leader. He has worked on a number of community arts projects for young people including Zoom Escape Rooms with the South Holland Centre, music workshops for Primary Schools and song-writing/composing for a variety of arts projects.
As an actor-musician Joshua has performed with Cherwell Theatre Company. He wrote the original songs for their show of Pete Stays Home, an adaptation of the book by Karra McFarlane. This show toured schools around Oxfordshire. Joshua has also played a number of roles from Thomas Putnam in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible to a comedy actor-musician in One Man Two Guvnors at The Blue Room in Lincoln. As a musician his musical skills have seen him writing original songs for Under The Bed Theatre’s Where The Lost Socks Go and The Snow Hare in Winter, as well as online Educational songs for the Northants Cultural Education partnership.
